Bonhouse Gift Bag

The Bonhouse Gift Bag is a pattern I created to be part of the “Fair Isle Designs from Shetland Knitters” book, which was a compilation of designs and content from the Shetland Guild of Knitters, Spinners & Dyers. Published in 2018, this book features a collection of patterns from knitting designers in Shetland. The book is available to buy online from the Shetland Times bookshop by clicking the button below.

Description

Bag knitted in the round with a decorative picot eding cast-off.
Cast on at the base of the bag is sewn up afterwards.

An ideal project for a beginner and great for experimenting with colour, and for using yarns left from other projects. Any jumperweight yarn is suitable for this project.

The finished size doesn’t matter so matching gauge is not important.

Needs 1 ball of main colour and 6 other colours. Knitting this with just 2 colours is great for improving technique.

Yarn Weight – Fingering/4 ply (14 wpi)

Gauge – 31 stitches and 31 rows = 10cm in Fair Isle

Needle size – US 2.5-3mm

Yardage – 153-175 yards (140-160m)

Size – One size
